RTL À LA DEMANDE MADE A PERMANENT SERVICE

Longueuil, December 5, 2019 - On December 4, the Board of Directors of the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) approved the permanent implementation of the “RTL à la demande” service. Launched in November 2018, this service, accessible via a microtransit app designed for smart phones, allows users to book short shared taxi trips to busy public transit stops on request.

“Ever the innovator, the RTL is the first public transit company in Québec to introduce an app based microtransit solution. The success of the service is proof that new transit options have the ability to meet the needs of users who live in less accessible neighborhoods,” stated Pierre Brodeur, Chairman of the RTL Board of Directors.

The service is currently available to users in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville who live in a specific sector south of Route 116. The RTL is studying the possibility of extending this service to other similar neighborhoods on its territory. The council also authorized a change to the service to add a new stop in the Gérard-Filion industrial park, which will be up and running in the next few months.

Not only does “RTL à la demande” successfully meet the needs of users in that sector, the service has also earned accolades from the Association du transport urbain du Québec (ATUQ) and the Carrefour action municipale et famille (CAMF).
