Longueuil, January 29, 2020 – The Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL) is proud to announce that another line has been made accessible to individuals with reduced mobility who require a wheelchair or a motorized mobility aid. Line 15, running from the Vieux-Longueuil and Greenfield Park boroughs, and the cities of Saint-Lambert and Brossard to Montreal, will become the seventeenth universally accessible line on the RTL’s territory. It is also the first accessible line between the south shore and Montréal’s Downtown terminal.
“The accessibility of this line reflects the RTL’s desire to strive for bus service that is universally accessible to all its clients, regardless of their functional limitations. Our users with a permanent or temporary physical limitation, and people travelling with children, a stroller, a guide dog or luggage must be able to use public transit easily,” said Jonathan Tabarah, Chairman of the RTL Board of Directors.
Each bus on this new line will have a reserved space for people in a wheelchair or using a motorized mobility aid, such as a three-wheel or four-wheel scooter (which must comply with the maximum allowable dimensions). The driver will be able to activate an access ramp at the front door and lower the bus, as needed, to help users with reduced mobility get on and off. The sidewalks are also lower at most stops on this line, making it easier for users to navigate.
