Eagerly awaited project on the South Shore

Longueuil, February 18, 2022 - The Réseau de transport de Longueuil welcomed the news this morning of a project unveiled in Longueuil by the Québec government; present for the announcement were ministers François Bonnardel, Simon Jolin-Barrette, Nathalie Roy and Ian Lafrenière, the MNA for Verchères, Suzanne Dansereau, and Longueuil mayor, Catherine Fournier. The government is releasing funds to finance a massive reconstruction project of A-30 that will involve adding a third lane, building direct access ramps to the REM’s Brossard station, and rebuilding the A-20 ouest/A-30 ouest interchange.

The minister confirmed that plans would include a dedicated lane for public transit and carpooling— a time saver for all bus routes that use this segment of A-30. Traffic on A-30 long ago reached unsustainable levels, with rush-hour traffic jams being a frequent occurrence. As a result, bus service is often delayed. The reserved lane will have the two-fold advantage of getting buses off the current lanes and of speeding up traffic for other vehicles.

Another notable improvement is that bus passengers from the South Shore, Longueuil, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and Brossard will be able to access the new REM stations directly without having to deal with traffic on A-30.
